Karachi May hem

The events of May 12, that led to killing of as many as 50 innocent people in Karachi, have no match in our recent political history and are quite disturbing.

The violence erupted in the city following the landing of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Karachi to address, Sindh High Court Bar Association, to mark its golden jubilee celebrations.

He was halted at Jinnah International Airport along with the team of his lawyers, who had come along to join the celebrations.

He stayed in the Airport premises when all of a sudden the city was gripped by a bout of violent actions in which number of political activists and the by standers were shot dead. The injured people complained in their interviews to live transmissions of private tv channels that the police & the law enforcement agencies were conspicuously absent during the shoot out episode.

They also claimed that the terrorist even didn't hesitate to target Edhi Ambulance Service and killed one of its drivers.

After a decade long MQM's struggle fore creating peace in the city or else where in the province helped it getting the hearts of common men on the street and it got very positive response whenever it had launched mass membership drive. As a part of CBM some Sindhi individuals were got elected in the assemblies on HP tickets from Karachi during 2002 General Elections.

However, its whole impression and growing popularity came down with a big bang following a day long violent acts of May 12 on Karachi streets.

MQM, in a hasty decision closed downed its offices in the interior of Sindh or other parts of the country apprehending public attacks or any ugly reaction. Hundreds of new entrants quit from the very memberships of the party in protest and chose to stay away from its fold.

MQM's supremo Mr. Altaf Hussain, should come forward and answer about the May 12 bloodshed.

On this forum we demand a high power judicial inquiry into May 12 bloodbath and also demand stern punishment to the culprits.
