Zafar Kazmi and shares with your grief and your agony on this
occasion. This loss is irreparable, indeed. We can only pray to
Almighty Allah that He in His infinite Mercy gives you and other
members of the family the patience and strength to bear this loss.
We wish to offer the following prayer from the Baha'I scriptures
as revealed by Baha'u'llah to give you strength and solace:
“I testify, O my Lord, that Thou hast enjoined upon men
to honor their guest, and he that hath ascended unto Thee hath
verily reached Thee and attained Thy Presense. Deal with him then
according to Thy grace and bounty. By Thy glory, I know of a certainty
that Thou wilt not deny Thyself from that which Thou hast cammanded
Thy servants, nor wilt Thou deprive him that hath clung to the
cord of Thy bounty and hath ascended to the Day of spring Thy
wealthy.
There is none other God but Thee, the One, the Only, the Powerful,
the Omiscient, the Bountiful.”
We are enclosing another tablet of Baha'u'llah which has been
revealed for recital on such occasion.

Zafar Bhoyee...
I was deeply shocked and grieved to learn of the passing away
of late Zafar Kazmi. May his soul rest in eternal peace, Ameen.
Zafar was my childhood friend and we use to play together. During
50s and 60s at P&T Colony and Ack Ack School when Zafar Bhai
use to live in Gizri alongwith his cricketer brothers Saeed Kazmi
and Iqbal Kazmi and his in law late Ali Haider Shah. We lost contact
for quite sometime until I met Zafar Bhai in Hyderabad where I
had gone to see a cricket match.
Please accept on my own behalf and on behalf of the President
and members of Karachi City Cricket Association our heartfelt
condolences on this irreparable loss. May Allah grant you, and
other members of your bereaved family patience and fortitude to
bear this loss. Words are poor comforters but we are with you
in this honour of grief and sorrow. Please convey my condolences
to Saeed Bhai and Iqbal.
Once again sympathizing and condoling with you and your family
on this loss.
With profound regards,

Lover of ‘Amaan’
At quarter past seven in the morning, by the phone call of Yawar
Ali Kazmi I learnt that Saeen Zafar Kazmi Sahab had passed away.
Hearing that left me in a state of shock and grief….
During the past/last sixteen years I had continual meetings and
sessions with him.
He was one of the renowned artists of the world not just Sindh.
He had tremendous knowledge, skill and wisdom which he presented
to us all through his brush & pen…
He kept on writing in his routine diaries till the end. Though
his listening and speech were severely affected, he till his last
days continued to express his thoughts & feelings through
writing & gestures.
He was a devoted lover of “Amaan” (the mother), “Amarta”
(Amri) and Sindh.

Kazmi:
Hero of Company
Zafar Kazmi was hero of our company. Our stay in Daily Ibrat &
Kazmi Sohib's regular visits there for contributing a cartoon
culminated into a longlasting love and friendship. His illustrated
father was teacher of my father and they were related to each
other. But my relationship with Zafar Kazmi was a pure personal
matter and effort. My recent trip to his house and detailed “Katcheri”
has now become a part of my memory and the photos taken on the
occasion are preserved with me.
May Allah rest the departed soul in His eternal peace and help
us to produce enthusiastic artists of his caliber.

Amri's Discoverer
Our relationship with 'Sain' Zafar Kazmi was dual. One, we belonged
to the same area and number two we had family relationship with
his illustrated father Syed Mir Muhammad Shah. His long services
for the establishment of Sindh provincial Museum at Hyderabad
and his untiring efforts for the preservation and promotion of
Sindh's cultural Heritage shall serve as a bench mark for the
generations to come. Moreover, his services for the excavation
of ruins of Amri is again a great job in the context of uncovering
Sindh. May Allah rest the departed soul in His eternal peace and
give courage to the bereaved family members to continue his mission
to keep his name alive.

Our Kazmi
I doubt if an long lasting artistic piece has ever one untouched
by Zafar Kazmi or any of the famous papers, periodicals or books
etc is devoid of his artistic advice or caricature. Actually,
only those could get turn the teeth of death sour who could carry
a power of living alive even after their physical disappearance.
We don't want to diminish his stature by claiming him as 'Farishta'
(angel) because humans are 'Ashraful Makhlooq” and they
are not ordained to bow before 'farishtas'. 'Sain' Zafar Kazmi's
absence shall continue to be remembered for centuries to come.
I pary for his Blund Darjat.

As a humanitarian
Uncle Zafar Kazmi was known as a dear loving uncle to me. Very
soft spoken, sensitive and a very respected person in his circle
of friends. That's how I saw him at his workplace. The Sindh Museum
Hyderabad. He was an artist in the true sense of the word. A very
well known scholar, calligrapher and very well known person. He
was a popular figure in the literary circle of Sindh. A great
humanitarian and a person who would always be remembered as a
soul who adored especially his work. He would be always missed
and remembered with great love!
I would always be grateful to him all my life for leading me to
do art work at school. I cant forget the pains he took to teach
me at time despite of the fact that he was a very busy man at
the museum.

As a visionary
Zafar Kazmi, was a personality of many dimensions, he was an artist,
he was a scholar, he was a visionary, he would be stubborn, he

Creating
Zafar Kazmi Art Gallery
By Saleem Channa

A literary reference in honour of late Zafar Kazmi was held here
to commemorate his servies for the cause of art, culture &
history. It was held under the auspices of a famous Sindhi organization
“Sindh Manak Moti Tanzeem” at Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium,
Sindh museum, the other day. The function was presided over by
an Octogenarian Scholar Dr. N.A Baloch and Mr. Abdul Qadir Mangi,
Secretary Culture & Tourism & Development, Government
of Sindh was its chief guest.
The participants highlighted the services of the late artist
and paid tribute to him.
A galaxy of writers, poets, artists & intellectuals attended
the gathering. Most of the speaker paying tribute to Zafar Kazmi
presented one or the other demand before the government to create
a historic monument for this monumental figure of Sindh.
The meeting endorsing the idea of Prof. Aijaz Qureshi for converting
the almost a completed project of canteen in the premises of the
museum, into an Art gallery which should be named after Zafar
Kazmi, the audience clapped for a moment..
Dr. N.A Baloch in his speech repeated the same demand and asked
the provincial government to eract a monument in the honor of
Zafar Kazmi. Endorsing Prof. Aijaz Qureshi's opinion about converting
the newly constructed canteen into an art gallery he said that
the nature has been very kind to Zafar and the time he left this
world for the eternal abode, building is (reference to a building
which was meant for canteen purpose) ready to be completed.
Mr. Abdul Qadir Mangi, a seasoned bureaucrat known by his literary
& cultural flavours, in his speech paid rich tribute to the
late artist Zafar Kazmi and promised to float the idea of converting
the newly constructed canteen building into “Zafar Kazmi
Art Gallery”, before the provincial high-ups for necessary
action.
The Provincial Museum which was though, founded by Dr. N.A Baloch
was nursed & nurtured by Zafar Kazmi.
Zafar Kazmi, was in habit of calling himself as the sweeper
and peon of the Museum. Because the seat where he served for nearly
three decades was in his opinion more superior than what he was.
He was outspoken of any degree. He was fond of pastoral life &
would love to respect & even bow down before a turban-sporting
Sindhi man.
He was above class, caste, creed, or 'grade' complexes. Probably
this is why he is today remembered & would long be remembered
in the hearts of art and history loving populace of the country.
