EDUCATION

Changing Scene of Education in Thatta

By Khuda Bux Soomro

The history of our civilization is the record of constant human efforts to make life more comfortable, easy, beautiful and happier. It would be impossible without the growing light of education. The education is thirst of knowledge the saying: the more you do, the more can do, is no where more applicable and rewarding than in the pursuit of knowledge. Knowledge is power as our great Holy Prophet Mohammad (SAW) said, “Knowledge is a powerful weapon”. Ignorance is the worst enemy of mankind. It breeds poverty and misery, kills initiative, retards progress and degrades human dignity.

This is a real story of Mr. Ahmed Khan who is the Chairperson of SMC of the above GPS Jan Mohd Chandio School. Mr. Ahmad Khan is one of the biggest Jagirdar of his area and he is then head of village. This village is located in the U.C. Laikpur Taluka Mirpur Bathoro. It is on the distance of 35 K.M from the main office PAIMAN Darro. The people of this village depend on the agricultural and livestock.
Mr. Ahmed Khan is 60 years old with browned hair & beard man comes daily early in the Morning, he opens the door of school regularly. He himself fills the cooler of water which is some what away from school and he says that I feel pleasure of doing all this because I’m serving the future of nation.

And sweeps the school regularly early in the morning, further he admits that though we had decided to appoint a peon but I thought to be responsible for doing it and I am very happy to do so, until a peon is appointed.
Giving his person views in this regard, He said few years ago, I used to think education is nothing because it is difficult for poor to get job if one studies. Hence I and villagers paid full concentration on forming and livestock, our generation were ever not admitted in school and most of us preferred to keep their children busy in the cultivation work in fields, due to which the teacher was irregular and irresponsible he was only getting salary, neither we complained against him in EDO Office.
He said it all is unbelievable for all of us to see children going to school regularly instead of child laboring. This all became possible for us when one day Taluka Coordinator Mr. Inayatullah (Jumani) with his team of PAIMAN_ESRA visited here. The motivation and references of some verses, and educational successful stories which reawakened our passions, since that day we really recognized that education is not merely source to get jobs but it all teach one, how to spend life. I and some of villagers met with teacher to be regular and responsible in other case, we all report against him for necessary actions. This all astound the teacher but now he regularly comes for teaching, all villagers personally visit school weekly to enquire their children progress.

While he was expressing his face expression and slight drops of tears were indicating that he had no words to express his feelings of happiness that he dreams to see scholars and well educated person from that school, for that he himself is working like a peon and meets with parents if any children become absent or irregular.
The symptoms of hope were obviously visible on his face, showing that he wants a candle of educational light blowing which will eliminate the routes of ignorance.
He said it is the first time that villagers are involved in the school affairs, especially supervision of school construction work made all responsible of ownership of these buildings.
The revolutionary change in the attitude of Mr. Ahmad khan gives message to all of us that, each Pakistani bears passions, if one is properly guided, this all is possible if government maintain accountabilities in educational sectors, and create sound environment for Non-Government institution and private sectors. The bill recently passed in the parliament by Prime Minister Shoukat Aziz of the budget 4% allocation for education and free education at Metric level is highly appreciative decision. The special heed paid by Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim in Sindh for literacy growth might bring improvement but still Government needs to launch more effective program at gross root to enhance comprehensives teaching skills and parents attachment with children.
