MDGs International Moot: a welcome move

In 2000 at the millennium summit the member states of United Nations issued the Millennium Declaration & committed themselves to a services of time bound and qualified targets known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for achieving human development.

It is pertinent to remember that for achieving MDGs one must be guided by the past experiences and the lessons learned. The donor agencies play vital role through their programs and projects in supporting the government efforts in meeting the MDGs challenges. The donors have recently evaluated the effectiveness of their programs and projects in Pakistan in order to guide them in developing their future country assistance strategies and plans. NRB's Chairman Mr. Danial Aziz deserves lot of appreciation for hosting an International Conference on Millennium Development Goals. The conference was jointly organized and sponsored by the Government of Japan, World Bank Institute and UNDP. Besides number of foreign delegates the two-day conference was largely attended by the top government functionaries to the elected officials of the ongoing District Government System. Well researched papers and brain storming speeches were delivered on the occasion. It was a well organized and well thought out timely action for reminding and re-awakening the nation to wakeup and strive for Millennium Development Goals. The nation is very much capable of accepting challenges and facing them with determination. From this forum we feel it fit to demand that such kind of gathering may be arranged on provincial and district headquarters in order to motivate our elected officials and the intelligentsia at large to get positive results. Mr. Danial Aziz possesses potential and power to do so.
