Awami Tehreek in Focus
By Ayaz Latif Palijo

This is to introduce you a patriotic socio-political organization Awami Tahreek (Peoples Movement) based in Sindh, (Pakistan) with its Headquarters at Hyderabad, Sindh.

People connected with Awami Tahreek have been in the fore front of every democratic and patriotic movement and struggle in Pakistan in general and Sindh province in particular since the mid-sixties.

Awami Tahreek is an organization with a broad world out-look and believes in all around and all-embracing change for the better in all fields in Sindh and Pakistan, in South Asia, Asia and the third world and in our entire global village which is also called the space-ship earth.

We in Awami Tahreek have always had and have always retained a firm faith in humanity and its bright future inspite of all the unhappy, sad and dark centuries of its existence since time immemorial and in spite of all the turmoil it is facing to day all over the world.

We observe that the centers of human evolution and progress have kept shifting from place to place, country to country and continent to continent. While the fountain head of the emergence of humanity is recognized to be the African continent and the cradle of its early great civilization of faiths has been Asia, the firm roots of world modernity, scientificality and democracy go back to Greco-Roman civilization in Europe. Our century has witnessed the rise and fall of Russia, the rise of both the far west (America) and far east particularly including Japan and China.

We believe that along with the great Eastern peoples like the Japanese, the Russians, the Chinese and others, peoples of our sub-continent too are entitled to the stability, prosperity, progress and human glory that was and once more promises to be the East which is rising up again and lifting its head and by the sacrifice of its sweat and blood is becoming readier to march hand in hand with all the fraternal and friendly people of the non-imperialist democratic West.

We believe that while the role of profit-based competitive market-economy has proved to be much greater than it was previously realized, it can not be and is not the Panacea for all the evils afflicting humanity. The most fundamental and enduring problems confronting mankind call for fellow-feeling, co-operation and united effort aimed at mutual benefit rather than cut-throat competition, rivalry and strife.

We believe that a uni-polar world is bound to end-up in confrontation, and attempts at domination of entire humanity by a single gigantic world centre compared to the vastness of whose domain that of the Roman, Muslim, Chinese, Mongol and British empires would appear to be a mere child’s play.

A multi-polar world alone can meet the requirements of our world to-day for peace, co-operation and for all-round social, economic , cultural, scientific and technological progress.

Awami Tahreek has been very active since its inception in its support for the struggle for democracy, rule of law, justice, fair-play, provincial autonomy and basic human rights for everyone specially the women,, minorities and the weaker sections of our society. In this regard we have launched a long march from Kandh Kot (Sindh) the hub of the sardari (feudal) system of Sindh, Pakistan. The march was started by our activists on October 8, 2009. Thousands of Awami Tehrik workers  both men and women  were at the venue. The people were chanting slogans against the terrorism, autocracy, corruption, jirga and sardari system, condemning the practice of karo kari (honor killings), asking for educational and health facilities and demanding opportunities for employment. The marchers would cover about 20kms each day and the route of the march will cover the length and breadth of Sindh. The total distance of Long March and dozens of short marches from Kandhkot to the Karachi Press Club (22nd November)is about 960 kms and same will be covered in 46 days. I invite you to extend your solidarity and to support and participate in this historic and unique event in the history of social and grassroots political movements in Pakistan.

Barak Obama - the world peace maker
By Dr. Ali Akbar Dhakan

Now a days the whole world is in turmoil and disorder. Even USA and EUROPE face economic, social, financial and organizational crises and chaotic conditions. In real sense, it is all due to crazy, aggressive and expansionary policies of the USA. At one side America is boasting of great achievements in the technological and scientific developments and on the other, it is spending a huge amount of its resources and Dollars on tackling harrowing law and order and terrorism problems and disturbance throughout the world. USA has engaged its troops and reserved a high chunck of Dollars to control the terrorism by killing them along with the innocent citizens in the world. Not only American troops kill the civilians but even the terrorists have raised with some hidden assistance of some countries and killed people and forces by their using self suicide bombs. The record account of such heart and head burning events and incidents are before the world and even with the USA itself. Any how, at the present Pakistan faces many mishaps and Pakistani people have become the target of terrorists. Even Pakistan military has been facing and fighting with the terrorist groups and the whole atmosphere has been very dangerous for all Pakistanis living in the border areas as well as big towns. Many people have lost their lives and have become prey to the attacks of such terrorist groups. God knows who help them in providing such heavy weapons and bombs. In such circumstances, the new President of America Mr. Barak Obama, people think him as the hope for the establishment of balance and peace in the world by his cool minded and equitable policies and hope he will prove as a harbinger of peace and tranquility in the world for which peace and humanity loving people pray for his success and achievements of harmony, affection and love through out the world and deserve not for only one Noble prize of peace but he will be remembered throughout the existence of this world as blessing heaven earning man in this world and the world to come. I hope Mr. Obama will not allow his financial and other resources to be spent on the destruction and killing of the innocent people of the world but all resources of his country will surely be spent for the peace, prosperity and positive progress and development of the posterity in the world. Mr. Barak Obama after taking Oath as the President of a big Powerful Country has started to formulate and announce his policies by stating his golden words in his speech at his first conference at Cairo on 4th June 2009 as follows: “I am honoured to be in the timeless city of Cairo, and to be hosted by two remarkable institutions. For over a thousand years, Al Azhar has stood as a beacon of Islamic learning, and for over a century , Cairo university has been a source of Egypt‘s advancement. Together, you represent the harmony between tradition and progress. I am grateful for your hospitality and the hospitality of the people of Egypt. I am also proud to carry with me the good will of the American people and a greeting of peace from Muslim communities in my country, Aslam Alaykum.” These are words of peace and harmony which disappeared from any policy framed during both Bushes‘ Governments covering a long period of 16 years in the comity of nations. Obama being an orphan child having a mixed blood of both Muslim father and Christian mother. From his very child hood, he was gracious and lucky child in his family where he learnt all sorts of etiquettes and manners to live a very simple, humble, submissive and disciplined life which encouraged him to be very diligent, hardworking, honest and punctual in his day to day dealings and affairs within his house as well as outside in schools, colleges and universities. He was bestowed with God’s gifts of intelligence and efficient head and heart. He got laurels where ever he performed his studies, assignments and other activities.

In Cairo he also stressed that the cycle of suspicion and discord must end. In this regard he also addressed to solve the problems of (i) Violent extremism (in the middle east conflict (iii) nuclear weapons (iv) promotion of democracy or Govt. of the people by the people(v) Religious freedom (vi) Women’s rights (vii) Economic opportunity. Sharing his happiness with the Muslims all over the world he on the occasion of the recent Eid-ul-fitr wished and offered his greetings in these words, “As Muslims in the United States and around the world complete the month of Ramadan and celebrate Eid-ul-fitr, Michelle and I would like to extend our personal greetings on the joyous occasion. Eid is a time to celebrate the completion of 30 days and nights of devotion. But even on this festive occasion, Muslims remember those less fortunate including those impacted by poverty, hunger, conflict and disease. Throughout the month, Muslim communities collect and distribute Zakat-ul-fitr so that all Muslims are able to participate in this day of celebration. As I said in Cairo, My Administration is working to ensure that Muslims are able to fulfill their charitable obligations not just during Ramadan but throughout the year. On behalf of the American people, we congratulate Muslims in the United States and around the World on this blessed day, Eid Mubarak.” In the end of his address at Cairo, he added that ’’we have the power to make he world we seek, but only if we have the courage to make a new beginning, keeping in mind what has been written in our religious books, The Holy Quran tells us “O mankind We have created you male and a female and We have made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another.” The Talmud tells us, “The whole of the Torah is for the purpose of promoting peace.” The Holy Bible tells us “Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called sons of God.” The people of the world can live together in peace. We know that God’s vision. Now, that must be our work here on Earth. In short, the message of Obama conveys peace for construction and not peso (money) for destruction.
